Welcome to Year 4
Welcome, we are really excited to get to know you and your children this year and work on some exciting units together. We have lots of different topics coming up this year and this page will give you all of the key information you need to know throughout.
Staff supporting Year 4 this year are;
This year we will have PE each Monday morning. Please ensure your child comes to school in appropriate PE clothing each and every Monday. Remember children will wear these clothes during break time and dinner time so must be appropriate for the weather.
Your child will take part in swimming lessons during the year on a Wednesday. To ensure the children get a longer period in the water at one time the classes change half termly. Please see below for when your child will need their kit.
When it is your child’s turn for swimming they will need to bring in their swimming kit on the Wednesday and will return to school slightly later than normal dismissal time at 3.30pm. Reminders will be sent out the week before your child is due to have their half term of swimming.
4H will be swimming until 29/11/23 and 4G will begin swimming from 6/12/23
Reading- your child is expected to read at home at least 3 times each week along with an adult signing their reading record – records will be check every Monday for the week prior.
Maths- your child will need to know all of their times tables up to 12x12 by May in readiness for their times table check test. To help with this they are encouraged to play times tables games each and every day at home using the following games/platforms.

Learning Challenge- Children will be given a project planner each half term that ties into the topic unit they are covering at that time. A paper copy will be sent home but you will also be able to find it on the tab on the left hand side of this page.
Our Current Topic
As scientists, we will investigate sound by looking at how instruments produce different sounds. We will be learning about how we hear things, what objects make noise and why and we will also learn about pitch and how to change pitch and will also be creating our own instruments!
As historians, we will be learning about the Mayans. We will be focusing on what important parts of their culture have affected our lives today. We will also be going on a fun trip to Cadbury World to learn more about the Mayans and the importance of the cocoa bean.
Please take a look at our Curriculum (located in the letters tab on the left of this page) to find out what else we will be learning in all other areas of the curriculum.
Should you need to speak to a member of Year 4 staff, you can speak to someone on the door of a morning or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
