It has been a busy time in Year 1 and we are all very proud of how well the children have settled into their new classrooms. We began our learning challenge with the theme of ‘Toy Story’, looking at old and new toys and we made a ‘Sporky’ toy from the film! The children have enjoyed learning about toys children played with from the past and had a try playing with an old spinning top and a Jacob’s ladder.
The children are currently learning about Florence Nightingale and how modern medicine and hospitals have evolved to become safe and hygienic, due to the ideas and work of Florence Nightingale.
In Maths we have been learning about counting carefully, adding two parts to find the total and forming our numbers correctly.
The children began the year reading a book about a lost alien called Beegu. The children enjoyed making a cup-friend for Beegu and writing about her feelings and features.
We are delighted to see the progress being made by the children when they are writing the various letter families. Our Kinetic Letter handwriting scheme is helping the children to form letters and numbers in the correct way and we can see great improvements in the presentation of their work.
We would like to thank all parents and carers for their support this half term with reading, spellings and learning challenges. We look forward to sharing more exciting challenges next term.
