Science

At Hall Green our vision is to ignite pupils' inquisitiveness by giving them a science curriculum which enables them to explore, discover and see the world around them.

We aim to provide a science curriculum that nurtures children’s curiosity and drives them to dive deeper into their scientific understanding. Through a practical, enjoyable and engaging curriculum we aim to motivate and excite children, fostering a lifelong thirst for knowledge.

Through the teaching of science we aim to promote the development of transferrable skills, such as teamwork and communication, whilst also allowing mathematical skills to be applied. We believe that these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident, life-long learners who understand that the possibilities which lie ahead of them are endless.

Science is taught weekly to children across the school year. Lessons are planned and taught from the National curriculum strands and are planned progressively so children build on skills and knowledge learnt in previous year groups and lessons.

Each lesson the children have an understanding question they must work towards answering at the end, this keep the children’s interest and allows for careful assessment of the children’s understanding. Children’s science work is presented in large group floor books; giving staff and children freedom to present their work in a way that they wish, it also gives children the ownership of ensuring their work is presented neatly for others to view.

Within our science curriculum we aim to promote transferable skills such as teamwork and communication to help mould our children into confident life-long learners who understand where all of their learning can take them –we discuss the career possibilities within each unit so that the children see how many endless opportunities there are within science.

Job possibilities linked to science skills and units of work are regularly discussed and pupils are enthusiastic about the prospects science holds for them in the future.
