Year 6 Bikeability 🚲September 2026

Our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to take part in Bikeability, the government’s national cycle-training programme, which has now helped more than six million children develop the skills and confidence to cycle safely.
We were particularly pleased that every Year 6 child was given the opportunity to participate, completely free of charge to families. The programme was accessible to everyone, regardless of their starting point or previous cycling experience.
For some children, this meant learning to ride a bike independently for the first time, developing their balance, steering and braking. More confident cyclists progressed through the Bikeability levels, eventually taking their skills onto local roads, where they learnt about observations, signalling, road positioning and how to cycle safely alongside other road users.
It was fantastic to see the resilience, determination and growing confidence of our pupils throughout the sessions. Success looked different for every child – from those taking their first independent pedals to those confidently and safely cycling on the road.
These are valuable skills for life, particularly as our Year 6 pupils prepare for greater independence and their transition to secondary school.
A huge thank you to the Bikeability instructors and a massive well done to all of our Year 6 pupils! 🚲👏
