Promoting British Values

Hall Green Primary School is committed to promoting the fundamental British values of:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of the law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

At Hall Green Primary School pupils will encounter these principles through everyday school life. The curriculum is mapped in detail across the whole school which explores different cultures, religions and celebrations. Our school enrichment activities, such as school council, also serves to underpin fundamental British values  We recognise multi-culture, multi-faith and the ever changing nature of the United Kingdom. We also understand the central role it has in ensuring that groups and individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation and radicalisation by those wishing to unduly or illegally influence them.

Our school is dedicated to preparing pupils for their adult life and we will ensure that discrimination against any individual is not tolerated.

British Value Events

Democracy is abundant within the school. Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our School Council and Pupil questionnaires. The elections of school council members involve the pupils presenting their ideas to the class and then pupils vote for their two council members. This is done in September each year so that every child has an opportunity at the beginning of each academic year to out themselves forward as a member of the school council.  School council members meet weekly to discuss ongoing projects and issues surrounding the school and they then feedback and discuss their agenda to the rest of their class’ in order to give all pupils in our school a voice.

As well as this, each September, the current Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to present to their ‘house’ reasons why they should be chosen to be house captains. This links to the school’s behavioural reward system. Pupils then vote for who they would like to take on these important roles.
